Course Information
Our flight training standards are high, so with your relative lack of FAR Part 121 experience, we will require that you undergo Phase I of our Flight Officer School to prepare you for the Phase II, the CRJ Type Rating training. Phase I prepares you to take the ATP Written Exam, instructs you on Regional Aircraft Systems, Air Carrier Operating Procedures, and Simulator Training focused on Instrument Proficiency.

Phase I includes:

ATP Prep Ground School (40 hours classroom)

  • Regulations
  • Aerodynamics
  • Airspace and Airports
  • IFR Flight Planning
  • Aircraft Performance and Weight and Balance
  • Weather
  • Aeromedical Factors

Regional Aircraft Systems Overview (CRJ/BE1900) (20 hours classroom)

  • Turbine Engines
  • Hydraulics
  • Pressurization and Oxygen
  • Emergency Equipment
  • Electrical
  • Fuel

CRJ-700 (10 hours classroom, 15 hours CRJ-700 FTD)

  • Introduction to Regional Jets
  • Flight Management Systems
  • Crew Procedures, Profiles and Flows
  • Autopilot
  • High Altitude Flight

Simulator Training focused on Instrument Proficiency (10 hours classroom, 45 hours FTD)

  • Approach Chart Procedures and Review
  • Regulations Review
  • Multi-Crew Environment Concept
  • Instrument Currency (AST Hawk FTD)
  • Turboprop IFR Practice (Beech 1900 FT

Advanced Concepts (10 hours classroom)

  • Crew Resource Management
  • Situational Awareness
  • Airline Interview Preparation

Final Proficiency Check to ATP/Part 121 standards

Phase II is conducted at CAE, an industry leading, full motion simulator manufacturer with years of experience in airline simulation training. While at CAE, you will be utilizing state-of-the art simulation based flight training tools. Students are trained in full motion Level D simulators. Instructors at CAE are ATP qualified and operationally experienced as commercial airline pilots.

Phase II includes:

Theoretical Knowledge Instruction
78 hours of Ground School
2 hour Oral check
Examination for the Ground School

Flight Training
7 full Flight Simulator sessions + briefings (28 hours)
1 FAA proficiency check + briefing as required (6 hours)

Phase II includes airfare to the training facility, housing while there, and breakfast and lunch.
